Is this game going to be released anywhere outside of Japan?

Recently, an advertisement (right) has surfaced on the net making rounds. (I was honestly reluctant on posting this because of all the back and forth Nintendo USA & Europe seem to be doing.)

The ad was reportedly posted in a March(?) version of the French PC magazine Joystiq, on page 35. The french reads ' They will haunt your Wii next month'. The Nintendo/Tecmo copyright logo is in the center, with a rating of 16+ in the upper left corner, and the Wii logo in the right corner.

The article doesn't use images from the game, but a photograph of a camera with an actor showing up in the viewfinder.

A forum member, (Mr. Mongoose) pointed out 'Alerte Orange' which is on the left hand side of the ad. Alerte Orange is a french company that puts together Wii ads.

SO, it seemed as if the ad was legit.

HOWEVER, according to Nintendo Ibérica, the printing of the ad was a MISTAKE. And that Nintendo of Europe now has no current plans to publish the game.

Official statement (translated from spanish from Revogamers.net)
"The announcement appeared by mistake in the official Nintendo magazine in France. There are currently no plans to launch Project Zero 4 in Europe."

So, apparently, this was a 'mistake' not only in Joystiq, but seems to have also been published in ONM France. Fans will remember already that ONM UK published a full article on the fact that Fatal Frame IV would be coming in February 2009 to Europe (Nintendo UK's pr office also confirmed this) ...a date which came and went with no further reply/statement.

It seems as though much to frustration of fans, Nintendo can't make up its mind if its releasing the series or not.

You can read the translated article of the Revogamer's article here / Original article here

On a sidenote, some of the German fans on Akaichou who sent letters to Nintendo Europe (German office) got a response back that there was no plans at the time to release the game to Europe.

More news fans probably don't want to hear from Reggie Fils-Aime.

MTV Multiplayer recently published an interview concerning Fils-Aime and Nintendo America's policy on third party games. As of late, Reggie has been rather back/forth and contradictory concerning third party games to the Wii, critizing publishers for not trying to make use of the Wii's potential, while at the same time saying that Nintendo USA isn't going to take risks on games that won't sell to the market.

(Even though some of their most highly requested games, Disaster Day of Crisis, Fatal Frame IV, & Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, keep getting asked about in articles).

MTV Multiplayer didn't forget Fatal Frame fans, as they asked Reggie a slew of tough questions - some of which were avoided 'until E3', they asked him about the 'status' of the game.

MTV Multiplayer: “Fatal Frame 4,” published by Nintendo in Japan. There’s been confusion and mixed signals about whether that’s coming to America.

Fils-Aime: We are not the publisher of that title in the Americas. So I can’t comment on it… I don’t know if it has a publisher.

YES! THE PV IS HERE!

We've been waiting to see the full video forever since Amano Tsukiko first put a snippet of the video on her website. The video which is most likely her final music video, is of Fatal Frame IV's themesong, Zero no Chouritsu.

You can watch the full video here.

UPDATE: 2/22/09
I've just been informed by Christina & Jollydoll that Amano Tsukiko's PV of NOISE has also appeared on Youtube!

You can watch the full video of that here! For those unaware, NOISE is the 'ending song' that Amano Tsukiko contributed to Fatal Frame IV. (So in total, she contributed two different songs to the game)

Man, I am really going to miss Amano. ;_;

Special thanks to Rei-chan of Voice Over for providing me with the link to Zero no Chouritsu! [ ]

Fans haven't been sitting by twiddling their thumbs while waiting for an announcement concerning a Fatal Frame IV release to USA & Europe. (NoE has stated that the game will be released to Europe in early 2009, but haven't been specific on a date. NoA continues to state they have nothing to do with a USA release, despite fans & game news outlets asking otherwise.

Besides IGN's article (that we reported earlier - FF ranking 52.9% in the poll), several other news outlets have also mentioned the game on their 2009 wishlists.

1up.com lists the game as #2 on their wishlist, stating that they're 'optimistic' that Nintendo of America will start talking about a game release soon.

Edge Magazine ALSO had a listing of games for 2009. The game was listed on their list as #6. Joystiq.com passed along their list as well stating that their own wishlist was close to that of Edge's.

What can I as a fan do?
International Petition - Projectzero.fr is hosting a multilingual petition for both US & European fans. The petition will be emailed to Nintendo of Europe, Nintendo of America, and Tecmo. I've also been told that the petition will be snail mailed to the same companies as well. Filling out the form ONLY takes a minute or two, so hey! GO SIGN IT!

Emailing/Sending Letters to Nintendo & Tecmo - Emailing or sending a letter/fanart to Tecmo or Nintendo to let them know how much you love the games. Even just a simple letter stating that you have played the previous games and would LOVE to play the next one goes a long way!

Keep letting the companies know that WII WOULD LIKE TO PLAY!

New Fatal Frame IV Screens
On a related note, DS-x2.com has posted several screens (some new) and a lot higher rez, of gameplay. It's the Japanese version of the game, but I figured I would post because some fans might be interested. I don't _BELIEVE_ the images shown are spoilerish...but as a warning, if you're the fan keeping yourself from Fatal Frame IV spoilers, be forwarned and proceed with CAUTION!

Fatal Frame Papercraft!
FINALLY, and I sincerely apologize, because I got an email about this ages ago and kept forgetting to mention this. Tubby-paws made this really cool/creepy paper art of Miku in the Himuro Mansion!

The artist also has a sheet for fans to make their own spooky papercraft! Great project for when it's 'raining again'. XD Please leave a comment on the artist's page if you end up using it! I'm sure they would love the feedback! [ ]

IGN.com is currently running a story on five Wii games that fans have been begging for a US release.

Of course, amongst the five is our beloved Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. While IGN seems to have a negative opinion on the controls - they seem to be the only reviewers who do - they do admit this game should come to the US.

You can read the full article about it here.

IGN also has a poll going concerning which game you MOST want to see! Vote Fatal Frame IV! It only takes a second!

Most ironic is that these are all third party wii games that use the Wii console's strengths to make rather ingenious games....wasn't that what Reggie was complaining to Gamespot about in an earlier article? I mean, why should other third parties make games for the wii, if you're not publishing the third party games that companies ARE creating for your system in the first place?

Several US fans have been asking what they can do or how they can contact Nintendo or Tecmo concerning the release of the game to the US. You can find more information about THATin the BCL forums.
