Utsuro is a collection of lost souls from the Hellish Abyss in Minakami Village. Born from pure hatred, they can neither live nor die and will forever suffer in pain. This ghost is exclusive to the Xbox version of the game and is the final boss of Survival Mode.

• An Utsuro is a common form of Japanese ghost. Rather than being the spirit of one particular person, it can be thought of as the negative energy left behind in a place by a series of bad events. In the case of Fatal Frame II, the Utsuro is an amalgamation of the thoughts and feelings of those who were previously thrown into the Hellish Abyss.
• In Japanese, "Utsuro" can mean emptiness, a void, hollow, futile, and/or vain.
