The Twin Doll was created by Yoshitatsu Kiryu, a doll-maker, for his daughter Akane.

It was a likeness of Akane's twin, Azami, who was a Crimson Sacrifice. After performing the Crimson Sacrifice Ritual successfully, Akane became overcome with guilt and sadness at the loss of her sister. Her father decided to make a life-size doll of Azami to comfort his daughter.

The doll was so life-like that Akane treated it as though it were really her sister, and spent all her time talking to it. Because of this, it became possessed by an evil spirit and began to control her.

When Yoshitatsu discovered the doll walking by itself, he realized it was possessed and began searching for a way to destroy it. Azami's spirit told him to throw it into the Abyss. However, the doll warned Akane of his plans. Akane hid the doll's arms and head in boxes around the house so that her father could not find them, and broke the doll mechanism opening the passage to the Hellish Abyss. Eventually, under the doll's influence, Akane killed her father.

In Fatal Frame II, Akane and the Twin Doll always attack together, and the doll is impervious to the exorcising effect of the Camera Obscura.

Misc. Info

  • Some sources, such as the English spirit list and Japanese official guidebook, erroneously state that the doll is possessed by Azami's spirit. This mistake does not occur in the Japanese version of the spirit list.
