The Shrine Guards are a group of men and women in Fatal Frame IV, who guard the secret shrine in the basement of Rougetsu Hall. They were chosen by Shigeto Haibara, both to serve the family and to protect the shrine. They also participated in the Face-Cutting ritual; a ritual to remove the faces of the dead so that they could not Bloom and spread the curse around the island. All of the guards wore masks, whether on duty or not. They seem to have known a lot about the island's past, and its secret rituals and customs, and it appears to have been considered an honour to be selected to be a guard.

The group mentioned in Fatal Frame IV fled to the tunnels beneath Rougetsu Island in the hope of escaping Sakuya Haibara, as island mythology states that those who hide in the tunnels will be spared. However, Sakuya caught and killed them one by one. Even after death they continue to patrol the island, defending secrets of the basement of Rougetsu Hall and Haibara Hospital.
