Dr. Katagiri is one of the ghosts you encounter in Fatal Frame IV.
Born on the mainland, 29-year-old Katagiri's research on cranial nerves led to his appointment as assistant to Shigeto Haibara at Haibara Hospital on Rougetsu Island. At first, Katagiri was excited at the opportunity to observe and study Getsuyuu Syndrome. He became Misaki Asou's main doctor, and also observed Sakuya Haibara, though he considered her condition hopeless.
Initially confused by the hospital's unscientific approach to curing the disease, Katagiri became more and more troubled by Haibara's unethical practices. He was filled with remorse over the suffering of patients subjected to experimental treatments. Even so, he felt himself drawn to the island's ritual, the Kiraigou, after he saw the Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. He was particularly impressed by Sakuya's calm demeanor before the ceremony, and expressed a desire to see her face once more before she was masked.
After the festival, Katagiri heard the echoes of children's voices from inside the well outside the hospital. He believed these were the voices of the kidnapped girls, who had then been missing for more than a week, and that they were being kept in the basement. He contacted the police on the mainland, asking that they investigate the hospital, and as a result of his tip-off, the girls were found by Choushiro Kirishima.
It is not known what happened to Katagiri after that, but he remained on the island and died along with all the other residents on the Day Without Suffering.
One of Katagiri's attacks involves him raising a pen-light and shining it at the player, temporarily blinding them.
