In Fatal Frame III, Igushi dolls were used by a village near the Kuze Shrine, as part of a folk practice used in the mountainous areas of Northeastern Japan. The dolls were similar to the Kushimi dolls used in the shrine.

The difference between the Igushi dolls and Kushimi dolls is that the Igushi dolls were the deified representation of the spirit of a recently deceased young individual (such as a child). Other than this, it is believed the dolls looked exactly the same in appearance.
