Miku has raised the cage suspended above the Tattoo Altar. Inside she finds an engraved mirror and a diary that belonged to the Tattooed Priestess. The diary mentions a man called Kaname, the same name as Amane's brother.
Using the Mirror of Loss, Miku unlocks the reed screens in the Engraving Shrine and passes through the door at the back. At the bottom of the Abyss, she learns Amane's fate: the girl's punishment for letting a man into the shrine was to be impaled. When Miku enters the Last Passage, she sees the shadow of Kaname, but through the Camera Obscura, he looks like Mafuyu. The dream ends.
Rei goes into Miku's room to check on her, and sees Miku's tattoos for the first time. Miku, who has lost all hope, tells Rei of the guilt she feels for leaving Mafuyu behind in Himuro Mansion, and for gradually forgetting him in the years since. Rei attempts to offer encouragement, but although Miku thanks her, she is not comforted. When she falls asleep again, the dream returns her to the entrance of Himuro Mansion.
Finding the door to the Manor locked, and desperate to escape, Miku goes to the Rope Altar once more and battles the Rope Priestess. As she turns to leave, she senses Mafuyu behind her, going through the doors at the back of the room, deeper into the Manor. At this point the player has two options.
If the player chooses to follow Mafuyu, Miku's form splits from Rei's, so that Rei can no longer see what Miku is dreaming. Rei calls after her, begging her to stay in life rather than following her dead brother, but Miku does not seem to hear; she only wishes to see her brother once more. Miku runs into the distance, following Mafuyu, and the dream ends.
As she wakes, Rei runs to Miku's room, ignoring the pain of the tattoo spreading. Inside, she sees the shadowy forms of Engravers gathered around Miku's bed; Miku herself has fallen into a deep sleep.
Later in the day, Kei Amakura arrives at the house. He and Rei discuss what Kei has learned about the rituals of the Manor, and although Rei is close to giving up, Kei's optimism sparks a new hope in her.
