Final Impalement

In Fatal Frame III, Hisame Kuze is ordered to carry out the Final Impalement by the Kuze Family Head, a ritual/act only carried out in extreme circumstances. It was necessary since the Tattooed Priestess' eyes had become mirrors and caused the Unleashing. The Rift was spreading too fast to be contained simply by the sacrifices of shrine workers alone, so the Handmaidens, too, had to give their lives.
The Ritual
The eldest (or most responsible) Handmaiden is ordered to impale and kill the other Handmaidens before presumably killing herself. The ritual of the Sacrificial Pillars is also performed along with this ritual if needed. In the case of Hisame, she was forced to perform the ritual to help contain the Rift, alongside the carpenters.
Result
More sacrifices are created to help contain the spread of the Rift.
