After defeating the vengeful spirit of the Kusabi, Mio runs down to the Hellish Abyss searching for Mayu. She finds her standing at the edge of the Abyss. Mayu tells her that she has been waiting in a dark place. She pauses then whispers, "Shall we begin..?"

As Mio steps through the final Torii gate, the room is suddenly filled with veiled priests. Mayu tells her sister that, although they were born together, she always knew they would have to live and die separately. Mio approaches her and assures her that they will be together.

Mayu replies, "We can't be together forever..." The surrounding priests begin rhythmically tapping their staffs on the ground. As she lies down on the stone altar before the Abyss, she continues, "But with this, we can become one."

She places Mio's hands around her neck and whispers in her ear, "Kill me."

As Mio strangles her sister, Sae and Mayu's voices are heard whispering about how long they have waited to be one with their sisters. Mio removes her hands from Mayu's neck, and a crimson butterfly flutters up from the marks left by Mio's hands. The priests cheer, and the Mourners come forward and throw Mayu's body into the Abyss. Their duty completed, the priests and Mourners fade away.

Shaking her head in disbelief, Mio rushes to the edge of the Abyss. A crimson butterfly emerges and tells her, "Thank you." Mio chases after the crimson butterfly sobbing and apologizing. It flutters to her outstretched hand before joining the other butterflies emerging from the hole on Misono Hill. With the success of the Amakura twins' ritual, the curse of the Repentance is lifted.

Mio is later seen looking over the water that now covers All God's Village. She bears the crimson butterfly mark of a Remaining on her throat.

Mayu's voice whispers, "Didn't we always promise each other? Together... forever."
