The Spirit Flashlight, also known as the Spirit Stone Flashlight (霊石灯, れい せき とう) is an invention of Dr. Kunihiko Asou and appears in Fatal Frame IV. It is powered by spirit stones, and is the only non-camera weapon in the Fatal Frame Series. It was given to Choushiro Kirishima by Sayaka Minazuki, to aid him in his search for her daughter, Ruka. It is unknown how she obtained it. The flashlight exorcises spirits of the dead using the moonlight. Unlike the camera it does not need time to recharge before another shot can be taken; however, there must be charge in the Lunar Spirit Power Meter, which recharges over time — upgrading the flashlight shortens the time it takes to recharge.

Upgrades & Equipment

Blue and red crystals are used to upgrade and strengthen the basic functions and lenses of this flashlight. The functions which can be upgraded are:

• Power - Increases the maximum amount of power which you can gather for an attack. Can be upgraded three times.
• Depth - Extends the range at which spirits can be captured, and increases damage according to proximity. Can be upgraded three times.
• Charge - Speeds up recovery of your lunar charge. Can be upgraded three times.
• Capacity - Increases the maximum spirit power. Can be upgraded twice.
• Chain - Increases the amount of points received for chaining attacks. Can be upgraded three times.

Capture Circle

The Flashlight's capture circle is unlike that of the Camera Obscura; it is a circular beam of light that resembles the moon. As the Flashlight gains charge, the circle expands and becomes more translucent.

Gameplay Tips

• The flashlight is only usable when there is charge in the power meter (月霊力メーター, lunar spirit power meter). If the meter empties, the flashlight must be returned to "Field Mode" (lowered) to recharge before it can be used again.

Misc. Info

• At the beginning of each new game, all functions must be manually re-equipped from the Flashlight menu.
• Choushiro Kirishima is the only character who uses this weapon in the game.
