Fatal Frame

While the Asou Family is not mentioned in the first game, there was an original plan to include a subplot involving Dr. Kunihiko Asou. This was taken out when it was thought that the extra plot would make the game too long (and confusing).

Fatal Frame II

Dr. Kunihiko Asou

A folklorist and occultist who created the Camera Obscura and various other inventions to listen to or capture images of the paranormal. While he has never been pictured in the Fatal Frame series, his inventions are of enormous benefit to the heroines within the series. Also, of the heroines mentioned in the series, three can trace their family lines back to the mysterious inventor. He was also a good friend to fellow folklorist Seijiro Makabe and while during research interviewed Kaname Ototsuki concerning strange dreams the young man was having.

Misao Asou

The father of Mio and Mayu Amakura. While not mentioned in the game he is mentioned on the official website, as a minor footnote that he 'found' the Lost Village when Mio and Mayu were very young.

Fatal Frame III

Besides Dr. Kunihiko Asou, a new Asou was also introduced to the third game.

Yuu Asou

Yuu Asou is a young aspiring folklorist who, just recently a month or so prior to the events of Fatal Frame III, has tragically died in a car accident. Prior to his death, Yuu had collected several books on folklore, and was helping his friend Kei Amakura out with a strange illness that seemed to be connected with a legend about a Manor of Sleep. His fiancee, Rei Kurosawa struggling with the guilt of surviving and blaming herself with Yuu's death.

Fatal Frame IV

The fourth game brought back Dr. Asou's name/influence and added a playable Asou family member- Misaki Asou.

Misaki Asou

A beautiful but headstrong and bossy young teenager, she is one of five girls who was kidnapped 10 years ago and taken to a secret location underneath Rougetsu Hall. Now, after the deaths of two of her friends, Misaki goes back to the island, being called back there by memories of a girl dressed in black who seems very familiar to her.
