Fatal Frame IV Countdown! (For Japan)
| 29 Aug 2008 |
New news....and it's a little intimidating. Which also has a lot of Tecmo & Zero fans, like myself, asking "What does this mean for Fatal Frame/Project Zero?"
Square Enix has put forth a bid for Tecmo to their board of directors. The directors have until September 4th to reach a decision. They CAN refuse of course, but Square says if refused they will take back the offer completely.
Tecmo has been in a bit of mess due to Itagaki's departure (and suing the company due for alleged unpaid bonuses). This takeover is just more news that is making fans wonder WHAT is going to happen to Tecmo's product.
Square Enix wasn't specific if the company would be completely absorbed or it would be a sub-company underneath the Square Enix name. They DID mention however (and praised) Tecmo's strong games (such as Ninja Gaiden & Dead or Alive series)....HELLO? ZERO just had a sequel in JAPAN TOO!
Reports concerning the takeover: Kotoku.com - 1, 2 , 3 1up.com - 1 Reuters.com - 1 Game Watch (Japanese) - 1, 2 Famitsu (Japanese) - 1, 2, 1up.com special interview with Itagaki
I'll have more news as soon as I can find it. As of right now: - No, I do not know how this will effect future installments of the Zero Series, Team Tacheyon (who are composed of members formally from Project Zero), or a release date for the fourth game in the US/Europe. - No I haven't been in contact with anyone concerning this. I was just as surprised to read about it this morning as other people.
All I pretty much know so far are in those articles. :> [ ]

With Fatal Frame IV making waves for fans in Japan (and for fans in other countries who have imported the game), US & European fans who haven't imported the game have been chomping at the bit for ANY news on a probable release date.
According to Dolphinking at IGN boards, they sent a letter to Nintendo inquiring about a release date. This was Nintendo's response:
"Hello,
I can appreciate your interest in Fatal Frame. However, at this time, a Fatal Frame IV game has not been announced for release in North America. If Nintendo decides to develop and publish this game, the news will be posted in our website's "What's New" section (www.nintendo.com/whatsnew). Be sure to check here often for all the latest information and announcements.
Once a game has been officially announced, our website's Game Guide feature (http://www.nintendo.com/games/guide) represents the best place to find the most accurate release dates. Once there, use the questions on the left column to narrow your search based on system. You may also filter your search based on genre, online play, etc. Click on the title of any game to be taken to that game's web page.
Remember, any posted release dates are estimates and subject to change. As a product's estimated release date approaches, you may wish to check with your local retailers to see when it may be available in your area.
Sincerely,
Raymond Chan Nintendo of America Inc."
While this response isn't a 'No', it's definately a 'Not Now'. Personally, I'm a little unnerved by this. -_-;; Fatal Frame has sold at least 50,000 units now in Japan (above the initial estimated shipment sales of 30-33,000 units). This isn't HUGE among standars (other games selling 50-100,000 units) but it's still more than other games. (Not to mention, I would really LOVE to play this game in English!)
Again, this isn't a 'NO' the game isn't coming out...but even when previous FF games were released, we knew it was going to be released in November. Even a 'Yes it's coming out, we just are working on bugs/control/translation issues so it will be a while before we can give you an actual date', would be better than a vague response. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though!

Sorry for the slow updates! I was on vacation, and I'm playing through FFIV right now, so I'm hoping to have more of the website (including the FFIV section) completely updated soon. @.@; (And hopefully take care of some of the loading glitches). - Emi
Gametrailers has released a really cool preview of the new game, that you might enjoy! (As far as previews go, it's pretty sweet!) Watch it here!
There's a lot of information already out there about the cool costumes that you can unlock. So I won't go into major detail. Without spoiling anything, I can confirm that two of them ARE Nintendo themed. (Sadly, no Tecmo themed ones...nor former character outfits).
As far as sales go, according to Vcharts, It's first week, Fatal Frame IV sold over 30,000 copies! (It was #2 in sales) It's second week it went down to #11 (and then later on #19) selling 11,671 games. So far, it's total is 43,086 games. You can keep an update on the games progress in sales here. - WARNING, THERE ARE PICTURES OF THE SPOILER COSTUMES ON THIS PAGE.
The release date I'm getting a lot of emails about this, so just a quick heads up. THERE HAS BEEN NO RELEASE DATE FOR THE US OR EUROPEAN VERSION OF FATAL FRAME.
Any site that is giving a date is speculating at the moment (Even IGN). As soon as I know an official date, I'll reset the clock on the website for it. :)
Again, more updates really soon (with bios of everyone from the new game). I'm REALLY sorry I've been horribly slow this time around!! [ ]

She posted this in English in her blog, and I thought it was more than appropriate to post here.
